Àlex Cassanyes Sabater (Capellades, Barcelona. 1982). Compositor i arranjador de música per Big Band amb una marcada personalitat que pren forma en la instrumentació i visió contemporania que li confereixen un so característic. Interessat per diferents estils de música, les seves composicions es fonamenten en el jazz, la música moderna, clàssica i contemporània, les bandes sonores, la música electrònica i la música tradicional catalana.

Guardonat internacionalment en tres ocasions, Àlex Cassanyes guanya el 1er premi al "Annual Young European Bigband Composer Competition" a Copenhagen (2013) amb l'obra After The Dawn. L'estiu de 2014 guanya el 1er premi al "XXVII Concorso Internazionale de Composizione per Orchestra Jazz" dins el marc del Festival de Jazz de Barga a Itàlia, amb la peça Horizontal Balance. I també a finals de 2014, guanya el 1er premi al concurs d'arranjaments del XXXVè Festival Internacional de Jazz de Granada amb l'arranjament de la popular catalana El Testament d'Amèlia.

Llicenciat en composició per l’Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, recentment ha impartit classes amb l’arranjador italià Duccio Bertini i el compositor americà John Hollenbeck.

Actualment el seu projecte més rellevant és l'Àlex Cassanyes Big Band Project. L'àlbum The Garden of Eden veurà la llum a principis del 2018.

El 2017 va participar a Florida (EUA) com a ponent al simposi de la ISJAC (International Society of Jazz Arrangers and Composers), on la seva música va ser comentada per la compositora de jazz americana Maria Schneider.

Àlex Cassanyes és professor i director de les Big Band de l’Escola Municipal de Música Mª Dolors Calvet de Vilafranca del Penedès.

Àlex Cassanyes Sabater, (Capellades,  Barcelona, 1982). Composer, arranger and bandleader with an ambitious and distinctive personality that takes shape in his instrumentation and contemporary vision that gives his works a particular sound and affinity. He is interested in a wide range of styles and musical genres and his compositions show a strong foundation in jazz, modern music, classical and contemporary, soundtracks, electronic music and also the traditional Catalan folk music. In this sense, he has composed and arranged pieces for instrumental ensembles with the bulk of his material for orchestras, Big Bands, concert bands, choir, cobla (traditional catalan ensemble), including also compositions for other genres.

Àlex Cassanyes has been recognized with international awards on three different occasions. He won the 1st Place award in “The 1st Annual Young European Bigband Composer Competition” in Copenhagen (2013) for his piece After The Dawn. Moreover, in August 2014, he was also the 1st Prize winner in the "XXVIIth Concorso Internazionale de Composizione per Orchestra Jazz" within the frame of the Barga Jazz Festival for his work Horizontal Balance. Lastly, towards the end of 2014, he won the 1st Prize in the arrangement competition of the "XXXVth Festival Internacional de Jazz de Granada" for his arrangement of the Catalan traditional folk song named El Testament d'Amèlia.

Nowadays, his main project is centered in jazz composition for Big Band. Indeed, this composing for Big Band is featuring his ensemble called “Àlex Cassanyes Big Band Project”, a jazz band in its traditional shape but with a more contemporary focus where he develops his own compositional style. His new upcoming recording called The Garden of Eden  is going to be released in 2018.

In 2017 he participated in Florida (US) at the ISJAC symposium (International Society of Jazz Arrangers and Composers) with his music being  commented by the american composer  Maria Schneider.

His Bachelor’s Degree in Composition is from the Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya (ESMUC), where he studied with such renowned masters as Arnau Bataller, Manel Camp, Albert Guinovart, Lluís Vergés, Bernat Vivancos and more recently he was also taught by the Italian arranger Duccio Bertini and american composer John Hollenbeck. Previously, his education also included many courses and seminars at the Higher Conservatory level, among them, Àlex Cassanyes attended studies in modern music and jazz at the Liceu Conservatory in Barcelona, jazz music at the Taller de Músics, and he was also at the Barcelona Conservatory (Conservatori Municipal de Música de Barcelona).

Currently, Àlex Cassanyes is a teacher at the de EMM Mª Dolors Calvet de Vilafranca del Penedès (Municipal School of Music), where he combines his pedagogical activity with his role as the School’s Big Band’s conductor.

Licenciado en composición por la ESMUC. Recientemente ha impartido clases con el arreglista italiano Duccio Bertini y el compositor americano John Hollenbeck.

Actualmente su proyecto más relevante es la Àlex Cassanyes Big Band Project. El álbum The Garden of Eden verá la luz a principios del 2018.
